Hello friend,
I sat at the end of my dining room table today to review some lab results. My giant monstera sits on a small table in the corner of my dining room. Each week when I water it, I turn it slightly so all the leaves have a chance to reach for the sun. And each week all the leaves turn toward the window that gets the afternoon sun. Even in winter when the afternoon light is low slung and fleeting, my monstera reaches for it.
This put a big grin on my face because I do the same thing. Whenever I feel lost or out of sorts, I seek out the light. I open myself up to it, allow it to shine into my dark places, to shine into my blind spots. Sometimes the light shows me something I hadn’t seen before and then I know that I need to pivot or change direction. Change can be downright scary but it’s also necessary if we want to keep growing. Heraclitus recognized the essential, underlying essence of life is change (Panta Rhei,“life is flux”)—change is not just part of life, it is life itself.
This week’s writing prompts:
What does shining a light on your blind spots look like for you? Can you peer into those spots and be honest with yourself about what you see or does it make you squirm?
In which ways do you grow when you allow yourself to change?
When you embrace change, what do you learn about yourself?

Looking ahead: I’ll be running my Functional Medicine Big 5 Labs at the beginning of 2021 as well to get a grip on exactly what is going on with my hormones, cortisol levels, gut health, inflammation levels, etc. I do this every year at this time because the labs go on sale (yay!). If you have been interested in running Functional Medicine labs, the Big 5 is my favorite collection of labs to run to really know what is going on with my clients and their health. Learn more about Functional Medicine labs here. Questions? Reach out!
